PASADENA
In Pasadena the main event
will be on Pentecost Sunday at the Rose Bowl Court of
Champions, May 31,
6-9pm 2009
The event is designed to
help bridge the many cultural, ethnic, racial and color
lines in Pasadena. We will be repenting and praying for
the transformation of our city, nation and the world.
There will be a worship band where pastors and leaders
from Pasadena will lead the gathering in different forms
of non-denominational prayer. It is not about personal
agendas but about selflessness and overcoming challenges
together through the power of His love.
This is the second time different local congregations
from Pasadena will be gathering
together to join hands with hundreds of millions from
across the world in Memorial Park, the heart of Pasadena.
One congregation and some members gave up their usual
Sunday evening worship service to attend the Pasadena event
in 2008.
BACKGROUND
On 15 May 2005 millions of Christians from 156 nations in
the world united in the first ever
Global
Day of Prayer. Christians gathered in different venues,
seeking God's face in repentance and prayer for the
transformation of their communities and nations.
Driven by
Hab. 2:14 ("For the earth will be filled with the knowledge
of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea"), the
dream is to mobilize Christians from every single nation in
the world to participate in the Global Day of Prayer over
the next few years until 2010. However, the focus is not
only on a single day of prayer, but to see a lifestyle of
prayer established that will transform communities.
This move of
prayer is still miraculously expanding. In 2006 millions of
Christians from 199 nations united in prayer, in 2007 204 nations participated,
and in 2008 it was 212 nations united together on the Global Day of Prayer.
On Pentecost Sunday, 31 May 2009, all 220 of the worlds
nations will participate - the
largest prayer gathering in the history of the world!

PRIMARY
PURPOSE OF MAY 31
The primary
purpose of the Global Day of Prayer is to have a process of
Repentance and Prayer where we will ask the Lord:
All
communities are encouraged to stand before the Lord and
unite in repentance & prayer for one day a year.
We pray from
the basis of the following two verses in Scripture:
-
2
Chronicles 7:14 - “If my people, who are called by my
name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from
heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their
land.”
-
Habakkuk
2:14 - “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge
of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”
