Elizabeth House
Mission:
To provide
shelter and family-focused support to homeless pregnant
women and their children through a comprehensive program
that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, and
economic needs of women and children in a nurturing
atmosphere.
Since opening in July 1994, Elizabeth House has provided
assistance to 215 women and 313 infants and children.
Currently, four women, two babies and two children are
residing in Elizabeth House. The women we have had in
residence in the past range in age from 18 to 42, with the
average age being 24.
Program:
Each resident must be involved in a minimum
of 35 hours per week of employment, volunteer work or
school. Each resident must participate in individual and
group therapy on site each week. An average of 15 different
classes, taught by volunteers who are skilled and
professional in their areas of expertise, are held on site
monthly. These classes are required of each resident.
Some
of these classes are:
Childbirth
& Infant care, parenting and discipline skills,
breastfeeding, health Education, financial management,
career development, job skills & job search training,
nutrition & exercise, cooking, adoption options, bible
study.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Our volunteer team consists of over 100 dedicated
individuals who provide a broad variety of services to our
residents each month. Men and women who have a heart
for this ministry are needed on an ongoing basis.
Some of these volunteer opportunities are:
teachers,
property repairs, fund raising, craft teachers, staff
relief, child care workers, weekend recreation, party/shower
planners, clothing “sorters," graphic design, office help,
transportation, and group discussion leaders.
